Permits and transporting protected native plants
Saguaro and many other native plants are protected by state law. Permits are required for transport of these protected plants. The Arizona Department of Agriculture Issues permits for transport of protected plants from private property. An ADA permit is not required to transplant a native plant within the same private property or to destroy a protected native plant. Owners of private land may need to notify the ADA prior to destroying native plants or clearing undeveloped land. We encourage everyone to make every attempt to save, salvage or allow others to salvage native plants prior to destroying them. For more information about native plant laws, protected native plants, clearing undeveloped land or allowing salvage of protected native plants, you can contact the Arizona Department of Agriculture.
Native plant transport permits
Permits to move protected plants including saguaro can be obtained from the Arizona Department of Agriculture. The owner of the property where the plants are growing will need to fill out an application form. The process is fairly easy and inexpensive.
